The Healing Power of the River.
I was raised where the Mohawk River meets the Erie Canal. History and Geology books will tell you that that is a very special place for rock formations and the only place on this continent where quartz crystals form naturally.
I grew up mining for "diamonds" down by the river and often My Brother Ezra and I would have to wash our muddy (and bloody) hands and feet in the cool waters of the local springs. There was even an opening to an underground cavern that shot out cold air all year long. On the hottest days of the summer we would put large rocks near the opening of the cave to get really cold, and on our return trip we would massage the bottoms of our feet with the cool stones.
That felt good…but not so good as you will feel keeping 2 river rocks in a cool spot, ready to be used in a gentle facial massage with your cooling cucumber masque. Not only is the massage good for your skin tone and your nerves, but it does a great job of calming down minor skin irritations, too. When you start to feel something coming up under the surface of your skin, hold a cold stone on it for a few minutes (and DO NOT PLAY WITH IT) and you will start to feel the swelling and inflammation go down as well as diminished redness in the area.
